COVID-19 FAQs

When will a decision be made on the SPRING season?

The answer to this question depends on the level of soccer you are referring to. Most likely, these final decisions will be made 7–14 days before the seasons start date.

Recreational soccer
Div IV (4U–10U) - Tentative start date is March 27, 2021
Div III (11U–19U) - Start date TBD (must confirm with CAYSA)

Academy soccer
8U–10U - Tentative start date is February 20, 2021 (must confirm with CAYSA)

Select soccer
Div II - Tentative start date is February 13, 2021 (must confirm with CAYSA)
Alpha/Challenger/Prime: Tentative start date is February 13, 2021 (must confirm with WDDOA)

We are at the mercy of the rolling 7-Day New Admissions Index for Travis County, which changes daily. Pflugerville Parks and Recreation controls our fields at Wells Point Park or 1849 Park so we must get approval from them to play.

WHAT IF I REGISTER AND THE SEASON IS CANCELLED?

We’ve introduced Risk-Free Registration for this very reason. Registration for Recreational and Academy soccer requires $0 down, and if we don’t play, you don’t pay. 7–14 days before the season is scheduled to begin, your credit card will be charged for the full price of registration. Once the season begins, no refunds will be issued.

WILL REFUNDS BE ISSUED IF THE SEASON IS CUT SHORT?

Once the season begins, no refunds will be issued. There is a chance that the Austin COVID Risk Index causes the City of Pflugerville to close our fields for some period of time. Teams may also be required to quarantine for a period of time if a player tests positive. We’ll do all we can to play every game we can, but some things we cannot control.

WILL the season be delayed?

Maybe. We will continue to monitor the COVID Risk Index, communicate with our partner clubs, and listen to our governing bodies. We are leaning on our governing bodies of Capital Area Youth Soccer Association (CAYSA) and South Texas Youth Soccer Association (STYSA) to help us set guidelines across the different leagues.

Will players, coaches, and spectators be required to wear masks?

The short answer is: Yes. Everyone is required to wear masks at all times except for players who are actively practicing or playing in a game. Referees may also remove their masks when actively refereeing a game. For a more detailed explanation, please review our COVID-19 Game day protocols.

WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF A PLAYER OR COACH TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19?

We have a Safety team in charge of contact tracing and reporting positive tests with the appropriate authorities. Anyone who was potentially exposed will be notified and required to quarantine before returning to play. If you have any questions, please email them to safety@paysl.org.

What if MY PLAYER OR A FAMILY MEMBER TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19?

If you or your player test positive for COVID-19, please do the following:

The club will handle the contact tracing based on attendance records and notify anyone who may be at risk.

WHAT HAPPENS IF OUR FIELDS ARE CLOSED BY THE CITY?

PAYSL and Pflugerville FC play at parks owned by the City of Pflugerville, and manage by Parks & Recreation. If they city decides to close our fields because of a spike of COVID-19, there is nothing we can do. When possible, we will wait for the fields to reopen and resume play.

Have you had any COVID-19 cases within the club?

During our limited Fall 2020 season, we did have some isolated players test positive. For most, it was determined that they had been exposed somewhere else and then played in a game. Thankfully, as we’ve strictly followed our protocols we did not have any outbreaks of multiple players on a team.

Who determines when it’s safe to return to play?

Our Safety team will handle the timing and contact tracing of any reported positive test. They will assign you a date when you may return to soccer activities. If you have any questions, please email safety@paysl.org.

I KNOW OTHER LEAGUES ARE ALREADY PLAYING, WHY AREN’T WE?

Our league is in Travis County, and Pflugerville Parks and Recreation has control of all area parks. If parks are open, we can practice and play. Other clubs may play in different counties and under different governing bodies with their own distinct policies.
